ICOPA 14

The International Conference on Penal Abolition (ICOPA) is a bi-annual gathering of activists, academics, journalists, practitioners, people currently or formerly imprisoned, survivors of state and personal harm, and others from across the world who are working towards the abolition of imprisonment, the penal system, carceral controls and the prison industrial complex.

The Institute of International Relations, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, will host the “14th International Conference on Penal Abolition” from June 13th to 15th 2012. As the country marks its 50th year of independence, the conference, which is being held for the first time in Trinidad & Tobago, presents an ideal time to re-think institutions, examine assumptions, and explore new ideas on developing a just society.

The uncensored open conversation among 9 Black and Latino Brooklyn boys aged 10-17 talking about the Trayvon Martin tragedy. Definitely as thought-provoking as it is emotionally gripping.
